The
Poddington Project: Christine DeWinter
A
clipping from a scrapbook
This clipping, worn and tattered, appears to have
been taken from the Tewiff newspaper.
June Thirteenth, 1863
. . . . and local constabulary called upon the DeWinter
Estate early this morning. Alys Eleanor DeWinter, aged seven,
eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gregory DeWinter of Poddington-on-Slossip,
disappeared between the hours of nine o'clock yester-eve, when
the cook, Mrs. Forster, checked the girl, and seven o'clock this
morning, when her presence was missed at the family breakfast
table . . . .
. . . reward of one thousand pounds has been posted by the
anxious parents for information leading to their beloved daughter's
return . . .
